Music Copyright Reference List for Live Streaming

March 18, 2020 by Michael Gyura

online-music-live-streaming-license If you are among the many American churches who have been thrust into virtual community due to Coronavirus (Covid-19), you might be wondering about the legality of Live Streaming worship music. You are not alone.

Please know that we are not lawyers, and it is always best to consult your church’s general council on all legal matters With that being said, it is important to realize that the live performance music license that your church carries does not extend to video.

Since every denomination has their own hymnal with it’s own copyright, it is best to go to your source.

  • Disciples of Christ
  • ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
  • Episcopal Church
  • Presbyterian Church (USA)   (and a message from the Stated Clerk)
  • United Church of Christ
  • United Methodist Church
  • Unitarian Universalist Association

You can also check out how your music licensing company is handling online streaming by checking their website directly or calling their support line.
