More Light Presbyterians (MLP) is a national advocacy network within the PC(USA) denomination, working for the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the life, ministry, and witness of the Presbyterian Church. With decades of history and a community of affirming congregations and individuals spread across the country, they needed a digital home that could do justice to that mission, one that was as bold, welcoming, and alive as the movement itself.

When MLP came to Worship Times, their existing site wasn’t reflecting who they are. It lacked the visual energy their community brings to everything they do, and it wasn’t equipped to serve the practical needs of a national network: connecting people to affirming congregations, telling the organization’s story, and helping member churches find employment opportunities within their community.

A Design That Doesn’t Hold Back

From the very first conversation, MLP made one thing clear: they wanted their website to celebrate their identity without apology. The directive from their team was to go bold, with full rainbow colors, vibrant hover effects, and a design that signals immediately to visitors that this is a joyful, affirming, inclusive space.

That’s exactly what we built. The result is a site that leads with pride, using a rich rainbow palette woven throughout the design, not as decoration, but as a statement of identity. Interactive hover effects add energy and delight throughout the experience, inviting visitors to explore. For a community that has spent years advocating for visibility and belonging, the website now reflects that spirit the moment someone arrives.

Solving Real Problems for a National Network

Beyond the visual transformation, MLP had specific structural and functional needs that required custom solutions.

Searchable Member Directory with Map

One of MLP’s core functions is connecting LGBTQ+ individuals and families with affirming congregations and ministries. Their previous site didn’t make this easy. We built a fully searchable member directory, available at mlp.org/churches-ministries/, that lists affirming organizations and congregations across the country, complete with contact information, location maps, and images for each entry. Visitors can search and filter to find a welcoming church community near them, which is exactly the kind of practical, mission-driven tool MLP needed at the heart of their site.

A Graphical Timeline of Their Story

More Light Presbyterians has a rich history of advocacy going back decades, and they wanted to share that journey in a way that felt engaging rather than archival. We developed a custom timeline feature, found at mlp.org/our-story/, that presents MLP’s history as a visual, graphical experience. Rather than a wall of text, visitors can move through key moments in the organization’s story in a way that honors how far they’ve come and inspires continued engagement.

Public Job Board

MLP also wanted to strengthen their network by helping member congregations and organizations connect with job seekers who share their values. We built a public job board that allows end-users to submit job postings directly through the site. Once approved, listings go live for the entire MLP community to see. This keeps hiring within the affirming network and gives member organizations a meaningful recruitment tool.
