Facebook Livestreaming: How to navigate the changes

You may have recently received an email with similar information and steps to download and save your videos before they are gone.

Facebook is changing how it handles storage for Facebook Live videos. As of February 19, any Live videos you post will only stick around for 30 days by default. During that time, you’ll still be able to watch, delete, or download them. But after those 30 days, they’ll be automatically deleted from your Page and Facebook’s servers—gone for good.

To help with the transition, Facebook is giving you until June 24 to download any Live videos that were published before February 19. After that, those older videos will also be deleted.

If you’ve got past Lives you want to keep, now’s the time to grab them. You can find the download options in your Facebook settings.

  • Create a single file with all your live videos that you can download to your device or transfer to cloud storage.
  • Download one or more live videos from your Page or profile’s Activity Log. To download your live videos, select Your live videos, then choose a date range to see videos available to download.
  • Download an individual live video from your profile, Page, or Meta Business Suite.

Note: You must have Facebook access with full control, or be the original broadcaster to download live video files.

Here are instructions to download videos from Facebook Live.

If you are in the market to change your livestreaming options or service and would like to discuss options, we’re here to help.

  1. What are the options to keep them longer than 30 days?

    • Great question! Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to keep them on Facebook for more than 30 days. You could download them and add them to a YouTube or Vimeo account. OR you could livestream with YouTube or Vimeo and keep them on those platforms.
