Ark & Dove Presbyterian Church

Throughout history, hexagons symbolized balance, harmony, and interconnectedness. It was no surprise, then, that the hexagon became a recurring motif for the young and vibrant Ark & Dove Presbyterian Church. It appeared in the window above the church sanctuary, visible inside and out as a sign of welcome. It featured in their logo. And it was also, eventually, incorporated into the new website we were honored to create with them last fall.

When Ark & Dove approached Worship Times for a brand-new website, they wanted the associated emblem utilized in a creative way. For their staff page, instead of circles encapsulating the photos of church leaders, they requested hexagons—a simple-sounding idea that actually required special hard-coding beyond what our normal tools allowed. We gladly took on this geometric challenge, and the results delighted both the church and our team. It was a subtle touch that helped communicate the message of inclusion Ark & Dove held dear.

Since it had been at least ten years since this busy congregation last created a new website, many technological developments and upgrades were available. One of these was the proprietary plugin we used to further enhance their staff page. When someone clicked on the name of a leader, they were taken directly to that leader’s individual page with a bio and contact form. No clicking through multiple pages or anonymous help forms was necessary. We created this software component exclusively for our clients.

Because this congregation included many young professionals and growing families, it was important to convey the vibrancy of Ark & Dove in an accessible way. They had four main focuses: music, social justice, children & youth, and education. Each category was filled with meaningful activities and events, including missions, American Sign Language, videos, audio recordings, newsletters, programs, groups, and more. With so much worthwhile content, we decided to utilize the design element of accordions, which categorized information into buttons that expanded and collapsed to reveal the desired details. This approach minimized the number of website pages needed and made it easier for people to find what they were looking for.

The donation page was another area where this organizational style came in handy. Ark & Dove graciously allowed online donors to choose specific ministries they wanted to support. With many options available, accordions enabled us to condense the various choices into a single, tidy page.

These were just a few of the innumerable decisions involved in producing a modern, effective website.

Ongoing support—which we included for every client—proved invaluable for Ark & Dove recently when their payment processor malfunctioned and interfered with online donations. We went through all the troubleshooting steps for the church and quickly found a solution.

After working together to launch and maintain this beautiful new website, we were grateful to become part of the interconnected community that the church’s hexagon symbolized.
