4 Different Social Media Analytics Your Church Should Be Measuring Weekly

Picture of a laptop set on a couch with a screen displaying analytics. It can be hard to identify the success of a social media post today. When it comes to the content your church is sharing across different channels, how do you identify what did well, versus what didn’t? Social media is still so new to everyone, that many people can’t seem to agree on how they can determine an official, tangible ROI at the end of the day in the world of social media marketing.

That makes it hard to justify this kind of marketing for many outdated organizations. However, we’re here to show you it is indeed possible to track a few different analytics, indicative of how you are performing on social media. Ready to get started? Here are 4 different church social media analytics you should be reviewing weekly:

Metrics to Track

1. Followers & Follower Growth:
You might be thinking to yourself – isn’t the follower count on my church’s social media an obvious analytic? It is, but it’s still one you need to follow. Sit down every week and write down the number of followers you have across all of your channels. Have your followers grown or dropped since the prior week? This can be a good indication of the performance of your content this week. If your follower count has grown, then look at how your posts this week compare to the week prior.
Don’t forget to look at growth in a larger time frame as well. Instagram, for example, provides month-long analytics forecasts that can show your percentage growth in followers – for free! Long-term numbers will also tell you about the performance of your content for the selected time frame.

Mentions are a great way to track how engaged users are with your content, the best days and times to share on social media, and whether users are resonating with your church and its messaging or not. You can track mentions by simply looking at the notifications tab on each social media platform. Write down the metric each week since some social media platforms do not supply it, so you can compare it to weeks prior.

It’s also good practice to track competitors’ social media mentions as well, as you can compare your performance against theirs.

3. Post Impressions:
Impressions are an analytic that describe how many people saw the post. Although impressions can’t tell you if the person liked the post or not, they can tell you about how effective your outreach efforts are proving to be. This kind of analytic can tell you about optimal posting times, as well as hashtags and other things that are used to extend your social reach.

Most social sites, like Facebook, will tell you right under a post about the post impressions, as well as generate the impression percentages in a weekly report that you can download. You want to constantly compare your impression results each week to the week prior.

4. Total Social Media Conversions:
This is a catch-all metric that pulls all social media conversions together, rather than separating them by channel. Generally, you will need some kind of analytics software to arrive at this figure, since all social media platforms will provide you with numbers strictly related to that platform.

This report can detail the total web visits from your social media, as well as the percentage change from the previous 30-days, the total conversions from social media, and the conversion rate from social media. This is a great way to prove the value of social media and demonstrate to other decision-makers at your church why it is a necessary investment for outreach.
